New Zealand Land March

In social studies for the past week, we have been making a map about how people walked all over New Zealand.

What worked well? I think that the map worked well because it was easy because we could just search up the places and make it into a map

What was challenging? Nothing was very challenging it was very easy.

What would you do differently next time? I would just do the same thing for the same task

Badminton

For the past week, we have been playing badminton in PE. I am going to tell you how to score a game of badminton.

You can play badminton in singles or pairs. There are smaller lines for a single match and wider/deeper lines for a doubles match.

If you hit the shuttlecock over to the opposition side, and they don't hit it, but it lands within the court lines, you score a point

If a server is unsuccessful out of the lines/court, its a point to the other team.

If you don't hit the shuttlecock, or hit it back over the net, and it falls to the ground on your side of the court, its a point to the other team

The first team to 21 points wins the game. There are usually 3 games played, so you might win 3-0,2-1 or 2-0.

If the teams are both on 20 points in a game, the winner must get 2 points ahead to win, eg 22-20

Health - Discovery

For the past term, in health, we have been making a presentation

I coped with the challenge by working with a friend so it would be a little easier and less stressful. I work well with others because when I'm stuck I can ask them for help and you can split the work with the person you are doing it with. Next time I will try and get my work done faster and put in a little more writing. I am really proud of how I chose a topic that would be just right for me because I thought I would choose either too easy or too hard.

Abomination Book Questions

  • What are the traditional roles of men, women, and children that are shown in this community? one traditional role for men would be construction.

  • At what age are members of Gloriavale expected to begin work? About 2 to 3 years old, basically when the child is able to walk.

  • What role does religion play in the lives of Gloriavale members? It is rumored that if they leave Gloriavale in the afterlife they will go to hell.

  • Do you think the people living in Gloriavale are happy? Why or why not? In my opinion, I think most of them are neutral living in Gloriavale, the reason for this is because that was the way they were thought to live because of their strict religion. I do think some feel different but are afraid to speak about it to others.

  • Do you think the people in Gloriavale experience Human Rights? People in Gloriavale do not get to experience Human Rights especially women. They are told what their roles are.

  • Would you be happy to live in a community like Gloriavale? Why or why not? I would be unhappy to live in Gloriavale, having your own freedom taken away just when your life had started would be the worst.

Effect of Heat

Contraction

What was happening to the water on the bunsen burner?

The water in the can was boiling because of the heat from the bunsen burner. The can didn’t implode because we didn't do the experiment correctly.

What happened to the water particles when we put them in the ice cream container?

The particles of the warm water and cold water combined the concentration of the two different temperatures mixed.

Expansion
When the teacher lit the bunsen burner we put the ball on the heat of the bunsen burner then the ball started to expand,(before the ball could fit inside of the hoop) then we put it back in the hoop but it didn't go in because it expanded then we put it back in the sink so it will go back to its normal size.

Conduction: When our teacher lit the bunsen burner our first pin dropped at 1 second, the heat of the flame was making the metal rod go up instead of down. The vibrations in the vaseline from the heat of the flame was making the pin drop off at different times.

Convection in liquid: The crystal particles diffused in the water. At first, the crystals were concentrated, then they combined into the water. The hot water was faster because the hot water combing quicker into the crystal because cold water takes longer for things to dissolve. But all the crystals didn't dissolve in the hot water either. The heat of the water combing with the crystal so it would colour the water.

Convection: We opened up a tea bag and put the tea leaves and tipped it on the table then lit the tea bag paper on fire and then the tea bag started to rise and float away. It rose because heat rise and the tea bag was on fire
